Review: 'Auggie & Me' By R.J Palacio

After finishing 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio, I, like a lot of fans, wanted to know what happened next. However, unfortunately for us, the author is adamant that she won't be writing any kind of sequel. R.J. Palacio did however, write three short novellas from the point of view of three characters whose voices weren't heard in the original book.

In 'Auggie & Me' we get to see how Julian, Christopher and Charlotte were all touched by the events of Auggie's first year at school, and by suddenly having the extraordinary Auggie in their lives.

Julian was so nasty to Auggie in the first book, and although nothing can excuse his behaviour, his chapter in this book certainly helps us to understand a little better why he acted the way he did. Julian is in no way a likeable character and for a little while I truly thought he was heartless right up until when he opens up to his grandmother. Julian's chapter was very thought-provoking and interesting.

Christopher's chapter was also an interesting read. I liked how he was able to admit how difficult it was sometimes being Auggie's friend and loved how despite the difficulty he never gave up on him.

Charlotte's chapter was definitely my favourite, because not only did we get to understand her better there was also 2 or 3 other characters who featured largely in her story,

If you've read 'Wonder' you must read this book to find out more!

Overall rating: 4/5 stars
